We come from these landscapes. satoyama . These extend on either side, with their mountain ( yama ), virgin forest, streams, hills and plateaus, village ( sato ) and rice paddies. A mosaic of diversity, an organic whole that vibrates to the rhythm of the seasons, like a living being.
We come from the rice paddies. The beating heart of the satoyama, like the church in our villages. Nestled in the valleys. Born from the hands and souls of men. The rice paddies, along with the rivers and the village, form a strong trinity, flourishing under the benevolent gaze of the kami, the protective deities who inhabit the wooded mountains. In spring, the kami descend to watch over the growth of the young rice plants. They will depart again in autumn, once the harvest is complete.
